Guiseppe Garibaldi - Italian national hero and politician, fighter for the freedom and independence of Italy. As a refugee spent he several years in South America, because of the death penalty in Italy for the revolt against monarchy. Garibaldi came during the revolution in 1848 back to Italy. After the death of his wife Anita decided he in 1855 to buy the main part of the island Caprera (between Sardinia an Corsica) to build there his house and to create there his family residence. His granite grave lies, with 6 other graves of members of his family, on the small family cemetery in the park of his residence on the island Caprera. His last will, to be cremated, was not fulfilled, because of the religious and political orientation of the government in Italy in 1882.
